What's Important in Life

You know, awhile back, I posted that I had come up with a new chore chart plan. It has been successful. The kids check the chart, mark things off, get things done without being told. But if anyone is still going to leave her school clothes on the floor, or forget to make her bed, it's this one.
Yesterday, she came home and ran upstairs to play, still in her Tae Kwon Do uniform. I had just told her to change back into her school clothes so I didn't have to wash the uniform. I had also told her to do her 10 minute reading homework. I had also told her to unload her lunch box. She hadn't yet done any of it. I called her back downstairs and fussed at her.
A few minutes later, I saw 2 teardrops. I asked her why she was crying, and she shrugged. I said, "The teardrops are still there. It hasn't been that long. Why are you crying?" She said, "I did it all wrong."
Then I received a link to this blog with a request to pray.
A little boy, just one month younger than Benaiah. From my home church. Brain tumor. Had surgery yesterday. His name, "Josiah," means "Healed of God."
And I spent some time thinking. No, Esther, I got it all wrong.

I am smiling with wet eyes myself. I guess all we moms can relate to what you just said. Knowing when to 'mash the accelerator' and when to 'put on the brake' is the trick. Learning to tune into our children and not into our own personal goals for them. Learning how to be firm and gentle at the same time. The list goes on. We moms know it well.

Esther is precious Sara, as your pictures reflect. How to let a free spirit be "free" and still learn to make their bed at the same time . . . Quite a job being a mother, isn't it? :)
