Finishing Summer Part 6: Tie Dye T-shirts

I found colored t-shirts at the Dollar Tree for $1. One day we let the kids put rubber bands on them and experiment with tie-dying.
Some we did with bleaching the shirt (the peach). The others we did with using Rit Dye.
It was a fun, inexpensive craft. Even the 4 year olds could get some of the rubber bands on. I thought I'd pass this on as a good birthday party idea.

Another great idea is to "spray" paint the shirts. Use those empty spray bottles and fill them with DILUTED fabric paints or any craft paint that you think will work. Put different colors in different spray bottles.

Hang plain white t-shirts outside on a clothesline (or on something similar) and let the kids spray on one color at a time. Leave them to dry.

Wash them in cold vinegar water in the washing machine to set the colors.

That goes along with your tie dyed idea. We did this at Bible school one year and it was really great. Looks just as "cool" as tie-dying.
