The Storm Before the Calm

Around 7am (or sometimes 6am, yawn), Benaiah wakes up to eat. I feed him, change him, then put him in the highchair. That is his sideline seat to watch the action. The next 45 minutes is a constant laughing, scurrying, cat-petting, hair-brushing, bed-making, toothpaste-squeezing, whizzing blond-haired frenzy. Lunches? Backpacks? Piano bags? Tae Kwon Do uniforms? Shoes? Coats? Hats? Mittens? Smiles? Kisses? They are out the door, then one last wave from the balcony. That's the storm.

Then I boil an egg, slice some feta cheese, toss a few black olives on my plate, prepare a pot of tea, and sit down to a silence that stands out in sharp contrast to the previous hour. Benaiah sits with me as I have breakfast and read my Bible. Then I pray for those blond-haired frenzies. That's the calm.

It's really too much for him. The storm he takes in each morning, then the quiet calm. It has this effect on him.

I thought about you and Benaiah yesterday. I can't describe the relationship between mother and son but I am sure you know exactly what I am talking about.

You may also know this already, but a mother is her son's first crush/girlfriend. I always heard that and didn't think much about it until I read something both my sons wrote in one of their sister's "crush books." (They had to write since the girls were writing.) Both of them chose their Mom as their beautiful girlfriend. You can't imagine how that made me feel . . .

Just thought I'd give you something else to look forward to. It is a very special thing.

Oh, and I do know about school morning frenzy. Same exact thing still goes on here, and guess what? Since Matt (youngest) is homeschooled, he is still the one left behind with Mom. I thoroughly enjoy that time with him and get a little sad sometimes because I know it won't be long until he is back in public school.

Benaiah is precious, Sara. Thanks for letting us see him like that.

Hi I found your blog from Kelly's Korner...
that video of him falling asleep is priceless. He is adorable. It made me smile really big.
I have 2 boys and 2 girls...my youngest is a boy 15 mo.-he is really special-but I don't think he is quite that relaxed.
