It was getting to be fairly sad the night before CC and the kids flew out. I'll be back with them in Turkey in two weeks but the goodbyes to cousins, aunts and uncles, and grandparents were compounded with the hard goodbye to their oldest sister for the first time. This is new. We will not all be going back together.
My mom made a nice country dinner of roast and garden vegetables. We had conversation, but the occasional tear was coming down. Right about the time we finished, we heard what sounded like a motorcycle gang drive up.
The cousins invited us for one last 4 wheeler ride in the country. Everyone grabbed a helmet and hopped on, following the trail. It really could not have been more perfect. It was fun and dried our tears. They laughed. They passed each other. They bumped down the path. The reality of the goodbye was still before us, but we made a new memory and the sadness was lifted for a bit.

Then we put the 4 wheelers up and started the hugs, even with one helmet still on!
After a couple of weeks to get acquainted, our sweet little island baby decided CC was ok and went into his arms!
The packing was done, the hugs were given. It was time to get to bed and be ready for an early morning flight. I'll never forget what my sister-in-law did for me that night. The 4 wheeler gang gave us a gift. Has anyone ever thought of the perfect thing for you before?

Your family is the sweetest, as always! I look forward to hearing how it goes for Firstborn when she heads off for college. Such an exciting time! :)
I love the way your family makes memories! You all cram a years worth of love in a month's time and make the most of every second. I'm praying for ME as she starts her new adventure and for the rest of you getting ready for your new normal. Thank you for sharing your memories with us. Love and prayers!
