Crossing Tennessee

We finished up our time in Memphis, keenly aware that it will be a long time before we see family and friends there again.

The kids had one last fun outing to Shelby Farms.

And some of the last bits of time weren't planned outings. They were just sittin' on the counter waiting for dinner. I'm deeply grateful, more than I can express, that the cousins on both sides are being raised by godly parents.

Twinkle painted these wedding and baby gifts for me to give with a pretty frame. We have a barter system. I buy clothes at thrift shops; the kids do art for me!

Just before heading out of Memphis, we took Twinkle to the airport. We had acquired a free flight voucher, so we agreed to let her fly to North Carolina to see a friend who had moved away from Turkey. It ended up being a nightmare flight, but a fun visit. Instead of Memphis-Charlotte, it ended up being Memphis-Greensboro-DC-Atlanta. We finally got her home thanks to her Papa, not United!

We drove from West Tennessee to Middle Tennessee with a stop at the Old Country Store in Jackson.

This sweet baby was still around when we got to Primm Springs.

And so our couple of weeks here begins.

We traveled to Jackson, TN to work with my husband on construction a while back. We LOVE the country store! Enjoy the rest of your visit! Praying for you all.

Sara,

First, I LOVE all your kids' art and love seeing what they do. Feel free to post it anytime (hint, hint).

Second, I don't have access to my email so read between the lines what I am about to say in this very public forum. . . . I think I might have offended you in a recent post. PLEASE know that my comments were said as if we were sitting around with a cup of coffee, two moms chit-chatting about our children. A thought/memory popped in my head and I said it. I was in no way criticizing anything you were doing. If you were around me, you would see that I am not bothered when anyone disagrees with me and vice versa so because of that I speak my mind. I am not politically correct, in other words. I do try to be careful and not offend and hope I have not done so.

So, this is an apology in case I have. I can't get to my email so maybe you will know what I'm referring to???? Ha.

Your friend,
Melanie K.

P.S. Of course, if you don't know what I am talking about that is even better. It means I worried for nothing. :)

Mel, I didn't take offense at all! I actually wondered the same thing and talked to the girl about it! B/c she anchored them with extensions and told me not to use any products on it (we just didn't wash it at all) and we didn't leave it in long, she was ok. I had forgotten about Bo Derek but died laughing when I read that. Yes, I remember the beach hair style!!! I just didn't publish it b/c I thought it might open up the forum for all these extra back-and-forth comments like it does on Facebook when anyone does anything as simple as comment on a recipe! ha ha. Love you to death, you are my faithful reader!!! I did take her hair out this week, will blog about it this week. You can imagine how it looked!!! :) Love, S

I will look forward to the coming post. I am a huge fan of that style but am also tremendously vain (more so in my younger years) and one mention of anything such as I said in that post was all it took to make me back away. (A real chicken I know.) In those days you didn't hear people talk about how to take care of it properly. I am sure that would have made a lot of difference. Anyway, it is hands down, still just as cool as it was in my day.

You do know we here in Mississippi are going to claim ME as one of our belles? She is way too pretty. Leave her here four years and we will southern-ize her real well. Ha. Seriously, Mississippi is either a place you fall in love with or you hate it. I hope ME loves it. It is very laid back and what I call, normal. Kathleen, who loves Virginia, misses "normal" people. She is in an atmosphere where everyone you meet is educated out the wazoo and are all government connected in one way or another. Nothing wrong with that but she misses people who are not politically correct. People here are equally educated, you just never know it. My neighbor around the corner is one of the state representatives in our state legislature but you would never know it. He sent me some tomatoes from his garden in a Wal-Mart bag this past week. Its that kind of thing Kathleen misses. So, I hope ME loves Mississippi as much as we do. That she loves the traditions, etc. (The eagle on the capital dome is pointed south. The best places to eat usually look like they would benefit from a good coat of paint, etc. :) ) Then you have Natchez and all our antebellum homes, the mighty Mississippi river, which is a love affair all its own. Paddlewheel boats still roll up and down the river. Hands down the best catfish you will ever eat comes from that river. I know first hand. My family fished in that river. EVERYBODY fishes in that river. How anyone doesn't love all that and 150 year old trees is beyond me. :)

Thank you for the note.

Mel
